Hi David,
Yes, I am struggling with keeping it sealed. The bubble creeps larger daily, like a slowly spreaking mold stain, so I am guessing my blue silicone didn't hold. In Bill Morris' A-12 reconditioning manual he recommends neoprene rings, but I am guessing you need to get neoprene and cut them yourself.
I also see people seal the outside with varnish - I assume this is shellac-type, so it does not dissolve in alhohol. Won't denatured alcohol dissolve any polyurethane-based varnish?
