Good morning Frank,
You were looking for something from the 1960's, so please see attached the bubble sextant and error observations chapter from the Air Force manual published in1968.
The manual is too thick to put it on the scanner, so I took the best pictures I could of every page of that chapter. Please let me know if you need me to take a better picture of any of the 10 pages.
I have used my A-12 bubble sextant in five different continents (from latitude 70 N to 54 S), including taking sights right at the equator line, getting fixes with less than 2 NM error, so I can say that they really work.
