Re: Bubble sextant Coriolis and Rhumbline corrections

Lars and Wolfgang, thank you both so much for replying with a pdf of the article right away. I sincerely appreciate it! And Rob van Gent, thank you also for that insanely valuable link that can deliver articles based on the doi code. Where has that been hiding all my years digging for scholarly articles?! Also thank you to Dale L. and Don S. for those other links. There are maybe a dozen like those that provide a brief summary but then link to a paywalled site. Fortunately, the NavList crowd has stormed and climbed the walls!

I was surprised and happy to see that the article includes the rhumbline acceleration analysis, too. This article is rather cursory and merely repeats the math with only a hint of explaining the physics. That's fine for a certain audience, but the physics is what should limit Sadler's later discussion in the article of the significance of any of these acceleration corrections in the real world. It's really quite an odd set of claims! Does any know of a later theoretical account somewhere that digs into the significance of all of this for bubble sextant navigation? Air navigation by bubble sextant had a rather short history, of course. Maybe is there something from c.1960??

    Frank Reed
