I am absolutely astounded at the results Weems got. I tried my Navy Mark V a few times from a 40-foot yawl and my LOPs with the bubble and averager were never closer to the DR than 40 NM. Using the horizon prism and averager I got results comparable to what I got with my Ebbco - LOPs at distances from the DR of 5% to 10% of the distance run since the last fix. My guess is that Weems was on a true ship where the period of roll and pitch in decent going might be comparable to that of an aircraft. -HewS On 7/13/08, d waldenwrote: > > Attached is a table from Weems, Marine Navigation, 1940 showing accuracy of > bubble sextant measurements at sea. > > It seems from the text Weems thought they would prove quite popular. > > > > > > > --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
