I was wondering about a clear-out, but while I was thinking of the word for keeping the best and selling the rest, Frank answered first.  I looked at the vendors ‘Other Items’ and gave up after page 7 when I saw page 11 emerging at the end of the line.  They’re mainly US coins, but he had several items from the valuer’s book for the Robert Benner Collection. 

Some of the vendor’s items are just a nail or a turned piece of hardwood deck with little proof of where they’re said to come from.  He had a number of sextants, but his idea of pricing is looks highly speculative.  I see he has a 1945 Hughes Mates Three Circle, which isn’t as nice as mine, priced at $799.99.  I estimate mine’s worth about £150 on a bad day and maybe £225 on a good day.

Looking at the marine sextant pendulous AH, maybe we’ve got something here similar to the analogue celestial solving frame craze of the 1930s.  I checked on the pendulous AH I remembered reading about.  It was the same period but by Beecher.  DaveP
