I have followed this forum for quite a few months trying to learn Celnav. I quickly learned that I do not have the math background to learn and advance in celnav. When my Uncle passed I was gifted his C Plath, Hamburg Sextant.
His Masters Rating was "All Oceans, Unlimited Tonnage". During the war while on a convoy run to Murmansk, a German Sub sank his ship.
Upon receipt of his sextant, I contacted Robert E White Instruments to inquire about a total restoration, cleaning and calibration. Upon receipt of sending the sextant to Robert E White Instruments, Ridge told me he felt it needed a new mirror while he had it all apart.
My goal was to own a like new C Plath, Hamburg Sextant and learn how to fix my position wherever I was and when I pass to give it to my son. Well, as mentioned I don't have the math to even start learning Celnav at 83, and my son told me he really is not interested in learning Celnav. Thus I am, offering it for sale. It comes with a Pelican Type case and if you want the original mahogany C Plath case, its available. Please contact me if you have a interest and we can discuss at length. I can/will take many pictures for you to viewPaul Mierop
