Thank you for the link to the C Plath on line which include the certificate, date and serial number. It clear up one question bur raises a second about why the heirs thought this was used by the father in WWll.

Ebay has a similar C.Plath listed showing the same handle. The serial is 34563 (1955 year of manufacture). I will guess that yours is a 1957 year.
