I recall the Timex-Sinclair brand name (about the same time I got a Vic-20). I looked up Clive Sinclair on wikipedia and realized he was that Sinclair! Is the booklet you're looking at this one (see link)? Gotta love germanium PNP's. The old USA published circuits from the same era call for CK-722.

My radio uses a 2N3904 silicon NPN (not a critical choice). I think the general circuit topology came from some page on the web. I recalculated the RC values to put it on 40 meters, and 80 meters with a mica cap switched in parallel with the vari-cap. It was an experiment in "Manhatten" construction, where squares of single sided copper clad are glued on a ground plane to make the circuit board. I can recreate the schematic if anyone wants.
