Greg:
I suspect that your meeting with a senior pilot was no coincidence. I once had my own experience carrying my marine sextant on a commercial flight. The security person, happened to be a woman agent was curious as to the content of the wood box I was caring. I explained that it was a marine sextant, which got an odd look from the lady. I changed my phrasing to navigational instrument, all was well. And then there was my experience of some years ago carrying a rifle on a commercial flight. More on that another timehould you be interested. As P.O. Ackley noted, while change is indicative of movement, it is not necessarily in the direction of improvement.
