Greg,
Deneb could work as a pole star on Mars according to my reckoning.
Mars orbit tilted to ecliptic by 1.85 degrees.
Mars rotation axis tilted by 25.2 degrees to its orbital plane and earth is tilted 23.4 degrees.
I don't know angle between earth and mars axis but it could be between 0 to 23.4 + 1.85 +25.2 or 0-> 50.6 degrees depending on the relative phses of their precessions..
Deneb is 45 degrees from polaris, so at some time it would be a pole star on mars.
