We no longer wear them on our belts in rigid, formed and polished leather sheaths (worn with pride and a wee bit of superiority) as we trudged through the snow and slop in darkness for our 8:30 AM freshman math lecture in the massive EE lecture hall--complete with overhead projectors. Short version--at $10 to $20 they are, like a Bic lighter, disposable. (Unlike an officer's or machine gunner's 1911 in battle.) Pack a spare in a baggy. Nothing is stopping you from getting a belt pouch or lanyard holster for your vintage RPN calculator. Maybe you can pass it off as a smartphone or a .380 ACP :-) Sidebar: If memory serves, in the early days of "pocket" calculators they came with a leatherette pouch complete with a belt loop or clip. Transitional geek chic?
