The jury rig Kamal I have settled on uses 22 inches of arms length which happens to be exactly twice the length of a standard sheet of paper. Each degree of altitude will measure 1 centimeter in the virtical when held at the 22 inch arms length. A nickle is 21 millimeters in diameter and a dime is 1 millimeter thick. Armed with these common items should quickly build you a reasonably accurate Kamal for altitudes up to 9°. Note- the 22 inches is to the front of the eye and equals 22.5 inches to the center of the eye for the correct right angle geometry. With this Kamal you are now ready to do low altitude CN, relative angle off the bow bearings, doubling the angle on the bow, distance off by vertical angle, and horizontal sextant angle circle of position.
