    Hi Greg,

    Thank you for the syllabus.  Just what I needed at this point.  Since I am not familiar with those authors (did I mention I was a novice), I assume the titles will make themselves known in my book search.  If you have an itinerary I might start with feel free to offer suggestions.

    A sextant will give a usable latitude.  I have done some contemplation on the fact that the Earth is more or less round and is referenced with 360 degrees of longitude.  I'm thinking I could track and correlate the time which would at least give me a usable longitude to create an Assumed Position and thence from there.  I'm only guessing though.  Aside from that, everything you guys are writing is over my head, but I am a tenacious student.
