Ha! These things do happen. :) Can you tell us when that was? Sometime in the 1960s, yes? I read a good fraction of your book, but I don't recall that story. If it's in there, can you give me a page reference? Thanks.
Yes, it's covered on pg. 49. Surcal 1a was launched in December, 1962 and burned up in January, 1966. Pete Wilhelm worked on the very first ELINT satellite in 1960 and built all four Timation satellites (the last two were renamed NTS-1 and 2). He just retired after 55 years with the Naval Research Lab.
