Hello:
Stumbled on this book at a library (throwaway) sale. How can you go wrong with another book for $ 1 USD? I knew very little about the details of Cook's voyages, but this gives a great overview. Some might not like the author's often opionated style, but he writes with a lifetime of experience and knowledge. This book certainly describes the early days of exploration voyages. Also gives an overview to other voyagers. I recommend it.
He was an extremely competent person, and he wrote many books. I would appreciate knowing any personal favorites. By the way, he was captain and part owner of the square rigger Joseph Conrad, which is still being used at Mystic Seaport Museum. I see it every time I'm at Mystic.
Happy Summer (northern hemisphere)!
