    Just checked a Canon solar calculator with battery removed. Stepped into a dark closet and saw the display read low battery for a few seconds then go off. Turned on my LED head lantern and presto ! the calculator was functioning perfectly by LED light only without battery installed. If something causes the solar panel to stop working then the small lithium battery will still power the calculator for years.
