I stumbled upon this video on YouTube in which the first officer of a cruise ship is giving a tour of the bridge. After explaining that there are three GPS units on board, the officer can be seen 'plotting' on a paper chart. He then briefly shows off the ship's sextant. It looks as though it might be a Cassens and Plath. I wonder how often (if ever) the sextant is used. I would think that at least a couple of passengers might enjoy a cursory explanation of celestial navigation if they saw an officer taking sights on deck.
Cheers,
Sean C.
