I thought the same when I first looked at it. But the index mirror is round, the scope looks a bit different than that of the Astra and there are some minor differences in the box. (Black handle, more spaces for tools and an additional set of padded blocks in the 'upper' left corner.) Attached is a picture of a Cassens and Plath marked "CP Sailing" which looks a lot like the one in the video. This sextant can be found on page 118 of C&P's online catalogue. However, after seeing the CP Sailing sextant, I am convinced that it was the 'inspiration' for the Astra. I did find a CP Sailing sextant for sale online for €769.95 (US$831.43). The Astra, at US$659.00 from Celestaire, is still a better deal, IMO.
Gary, you linked to an article you wrote for ON. Yes, I vaguely remembered that article as I was typing my original post. Thanks for linking to it and saving me the time looking for it again. It's an interesting story, although comical in a sort of tragic way.
