Silicone works for me, as it is flexible and there are little to no torsion,
sheering (helped by foam in lid) or tensile forces acting on it. Once the
lid is closed, it is pretty much self contained. Compression secures it to
the lid and frame, and the hole in the foam it passes through inhibits
lateral motion. It's generous footprint stops it from rockin' and rollin'.
Double stick carpet tape could work, at least for test fittings. Another
favorite of mine is Seal-All (available at hardware stores). A tenacious
little devil is 3M Plastic and Emblem Adhesive, used to put rubbing strakes,
trim etc on automobiles (available at body/automotive paint supply stores).
