Some time ago, we had a discussion about the
plastic bullet proof case offered by Celestaire.
The main discussion on this subject matter was how
the sextant is secured in the box and which parts of the sextant come into
contact with the foam in the lid. One of the posters indicated that he had
modified his case to include foam blocks which come into contact with the frame
of the sextant, rather than the horizon mirror frame. He was going to post a photo of his set up.
I have lost that posting and cannot remember the
name of the fellow who posted it.
Buddy, if you are out there, do you have a
photograph of your set up that you would be willing to share with me? I
love my sextant case and I am pretty much satisfied with how I have it
set up, but on further examination, it does indeed appear that if the case
happens to be upside down position (highly unlikely if I have anything to say
about it) or even in the carry position, the horizon mirror frame is likely the
pressure point for the lid. I like the idea of modifying it so that the pressure
is on the frame. But I would like to see your setup before I start fumbling
around in my mad scientist workshop.
cheers,
Robert
