Hello everyone,
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to give a celestial navigation presentation at the Florida International University Astro Science Center in the Miami area.
It was about the principles of celestial navigation, but we also had the opportunity to go upstairs to the observatory and take sights of the moon, Jupiter and Sirus to calculate our position with a A-12 sextant. Although we only took two sights per celestial body, the result was 3.2 miles from the gps position, so the audience was quite impressed. The total presentation took about 2.5 hours.
Great experience, and the next presentation will be in a couple months to the Air Force cadets at the Homestead Air Force reserve based, south of Miami.
Thanks
