    Hello Brad,

    Thanks for the link but I had allready read the report.  It was written by a Midshipman at the Naval Academy almost 20 years ago.  Very good and thought out.

    My point was that when we do get serious about Mars ( no time soon ) that we would have satilites in orbit for comm and supply relay.  If a GPS like signal was included - and I think it would be - then INS type units in the exploration craft updated every six or ten hours by satilite signal would be better.

    I agree that a SR-71 type star tracker would work also.  Cel nav on Mars should be stuided but I do not think it would be the first choice.
