I got a Molija mechanical pocket watch for $35 plus shipping on Ebay. It's a Soviet knockoff of a Rolex movement. I have not checked it's error rate yet so don't ask if is consistent, I don't know.
I got a pair of ammo boxes at Costco recently just to use as waterproof Faraday cages. I prefer ferrous faraday cages because I believe they should block the magnetic component of a lightning strike better than aluminum or similar. I don't really have any empiracle evidence for this, it is just an arguement from first principles, which is the best I've got here. The magnetic component can damage electronics as well as the electrical field component.
The watch will go in there too. Being metal I believe it is susceptible magnetization during a lightning strike.
