What became of the outfit who used to produce
the "Celesticomp" navigation calculator?
Several years ago, they were the premiere cel nav
calculator. Now they seem to have vanished from sight.
I purchased one about a dozen years ago and still
use it. Like Garmin GPS units, Celesticomp is very user friendly, can be
mastered even without reading the instructions (a bonus for men everywhere!) and
is a phenomenal anti-drudgery tool. The only drawback I saw was that it didn't
accommodate bubble sextant observations of the sun and moon. One has to add
or subtract semi-diameter to the sextant altitude in order to plug in the entry
argument.
Anyhow, does anyone out there know why Celesticomp
seems to have vanished? I can only guess that the manufacturers did not keep up
with current trends and technologies.
Robert
