Hi Ian,
Thank you for this! Couldn't agree more with your "great investment" thought. I bought mine in 1992 and have thoroughly enjoyed using it. I've taken very good care of it and it is still in pristine condition. About 7 years ago I saw a fellow had one advertised for sale on Craigslist. It looked nice from the pictures, so I bought it for a meager sum. I don't think the fellow really knew what it was or what it was used for. When I received it the computer looked like it had never been used. Brand new condition. So now I have two of them and I'll keep them until they close the lid, probably long before 2100 haha. Over the years I've bought StarPilot and a couple of apps, but to me none of them are as intuitive and easy to use as the Celesticomp. I'm relieved to learn that the almanac is good for so long.
I, too, spoke to John Watkins in the early '90s when I first bought the Celesticomp from Celestaire. Very nice fellow and quite easy to chat with. Must surely have been a brilliant fellow.
Thank you for forwarding this along to me. I sincerely appreciate it.
Take care and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Mark Barnard
