This is on topic because cell phones can also double as a GPS and or sight reduction computor. Many nautical apps available. So not giving the cell phone to Davy Jones is prudent. A swivel clip on an extendable coil lanyard (like the deadman switch clip for outboard motors) would be light and practical. This also would help prevent damage by dropping.

Date: 2016 Jun 2, 12:19 -0700Hi folks.I realize not really cel nav related but it has come to my attention that just about all cell phone users,including myself, do not have their devices attached to a secure part of their body. One of my ideas is to have the ear bud chord,or lanyard attached to a belt loop,fanny pack,back pack,wrist case,etc. Just my 2 cents,would appreciate any feedback,thanks much.
