Thank you for this analysis - it is very informative. Interestingly enough, Cassens & Plath, makes an "artificial horizon" optic to be attached to a marine sextant: https://shop.cassens-plath.de/en/Artificial-Navigation-Horizon/47100s
Also, several manufacturers make (flat) glass "skylights" for Cessna aircraft (which may or may not be helpfil for cel nav purposes.
