I have always understood that the Chinese versions were copies of the Celestaire design Ken Sr had made in China. The source for this is Celestaire catalogs from years ago. I could be wrong on this of course.
My current ship was built in ROK and was supplied with a Chinese sextant that is a dead ringer for an Astra IIIB. I mount my Celestaire 7x35 scope on it and have no issues navigating with it to my usual precision.
