yes, that is basically it. this is nitpicking but might be important on some crystalls, main reason for shift is that crystal surfaces get affected by oxygen and the chemicals used to goldplate it, then we have the effects when it is heatsealed in the case... it all adds up.
lab gear accurate to sub-microseconds over short time (day to a week) translates badly sometimes, does not hurt to consider though.
