Heh. Yeah, things are different in high latitudes. Reminds me of a question I got from a student last fall. He had sailed near the Aleutians in August last year, and he wondered about the strange "twilight-like" glow along the horizon due north around midnight. Strange twilight, of course, is exactly what it was.

Oh, by the way, are there things on your website (blog?) that you want to share with the NavList community? There are a number of people here with similar "Cold War" nav backgrounds who would, no doubt, enjoy hearing more from you. Also, from what you said in a different setting, it sounds lioke you have an extensive background in space flight, and anything even loosely related to navigation would be appropriate here. Please do tell us more.
