Re: Compare Methods: Lat/Lon Near Noon

Good day to you Frank, and Thanks for your kind information and advice which I have read with a lot of attention about the Hewitt's Book: That's the one !

Given my genuine interest in the matter, I will attempt sourcing one ring-bound copy.

Meanwhile, from private communications, I have received important information both about the Admiralty early LAN Method publication, as well as about its French Navy counterpart.

As I think  important that both should be now accurately referenced and included this Revised Attachment.

I have also been able to simplify and clarify some points of the "Russian Navigator method" including onto my own hand-drawn Wilson's graph while not forgetting afterwards to check that the assumptions applicable to such method are valid in your Example, which they actually are.

Finally in the friendly nonetheless strong competition between Calculators/Computors statistical methods and the graph paper Methods devised to solve for LAN's, it is interesting to see that now both have come to maturity.

If at some earlier point, one could predict a definitive advantage to be secured by the Statistical Methods, it now shows very conclusively that both the Russian Navigator Method and your own Folded Graph Paper Method are going to stay well alive, each of them standing up as an impregnable and undefeatable Fortress for the Centuries to come.

Thank your for submitting this NEAR NOON / LAN Topic to our Community lately, and standing by for our future thrilling developments, i.e. after we have lost our rigging in a squall overnight, and as advertised as a conclusion to this same post of yours.

    Antoine M. Couëtte
