Azimuth can be very confusing. I decided to check the azimuth with the ABC tables from Norie. The answer was 84°, not the 96° I had obtained from Burdwood. Looking at the C table I noticed that the largest number that could be extracted was 90. Then I realised that 180 - 84 = 96. There was only one option left to me and that was to RTFM!
From the notes at the bottom of each page in the C tables I deduced that the azimuth was N84. To me that is equivalent to S96 which is the answer I wanted.
Therefore the ABC tables agree with Burdwood but only if you carefully follow the instructions.
