In reading, have come across procedures for using CelNav to measure compass deviation. Procedures seen so far use Polaris at altitude, the Sun at the horizon (actually visible as lower limb at 1.5 diameters above horizon), and stars at the horizon. The books speak of obtaining compass deviation to the fraction of a degree. Wondering if folks in the group have been able to measure the azimuth angle of the celestial body to such accuracy using the vessel's compass.
Would seem to me that sighting over a small vessel's (thinking Alberg 30 here) compass might be hard to come within a degree of arc, much less fractions thereof.
Would be interested in hearing folks experiences with the procedures and thoughts regarding them.
