Thanks for the explanation - and I also forgot you maritime guys cannot (in general) shoot at night like us who fly can do - and we have this magic gadget called an astro compass (which does exactly what you need to do on astro bodies).
I have one of these acting as a paper weight on my desk - a genuine WWII astro-compass - however, we used them in the P3 Orion - also useful for true bearings on a piece of land if the radar is down or off for security reasons.
