Alex, You mentioned that you would like to subtract out the errors in Cook's observations that came from the almanac data. You can get the nautical almanacs for those years from that same archive. Since Purdue subscribes, it shouldn't be a problem, but I can mail them to you (or anyone else who doesn't have a subscription to that service) if you like.
