Four hundred years ago, Edward Wright moaned at navigators not adjusting their almanac declination for longitude. For example: at 90°W, on March 21^st, the navigator needs to add 5.8´ to sun's declination tabulated for 0° longitude (assuming sun has crossed equator), to obtain its declination when on his meridian. In sixty years of Pacific navigation I have never applied that correction, and feel ashamed. Does anyone apply it? Would its non-application account for that often apparent dichotomy, along the course line, between star and sun sight positions? Paul.
