Re: Corrections for latitude when taking sights

    Hello Steve

There is no correction for the times of sunrise or sunset for latitude.  You are correct.

The two corrections to the time are longitude, to adjust from the central meridian of your time zone, and Equation of time, to adjust for the sun being early or late as compared to our clocks.

If your time keeping is in local apparent time, then your adjustment for longitude is zero.  It may be difficult keeping the sundial aligned at sea, but even sundials need the EoT.  /s

There is a table for interpolating times for sunrise and moonrise relative to longitude and latitude, Nautical Almanac table xxxii.

Is there ever a reason or need to correct for latitude, for these bodies, if either are a part of a two-body fix?  I think not but I wanted to ask.
