Hi George,
thanks for mentioning that and the list with corrections. The book I ordered was however "History of the Navigator's Sextant". I did not yet receive this book, it is due to arrive later this week or beginning next week.
I am not sure if I will buy "History of Nautical Astronomy" as well, but if I do I will certainly keep the list in mind.
Being not completely informed about the author, I wonder if he is still amidst us and if so, if he ever has been given the chance to respond to the errors found (I guess it is 'no' twice).
Do you create lists like these on other books as well?
Nicolàs

I agree, about Abebooks. Cotter wrote several books on nautical topics, but if the Cotter Nicolas refers to is his "History of Nautical Astronomy", then Nicolàs should take warning. It is indeed a very useful work, with lots of references and accounts of various techniques, but on the technical/mathematical side he seems to have been frequently out of his depth. As a result, it is riddled with errors, unfortunately. Jan Kalivoda and I have assembled a list of known or suspected errors, available at- www.huxtable.u-net.com/cotter01.htm This is intended for a Cotter-owner to keep with his copy. No doubt a fellow with the knowledge of Nicolàs de Hilster will discover further errors, and if so, I ask that he communicates them to me, to add to that list. And also, of course, if he thinks that any of our "suspected errors" are unjustified.
