Re: Could I have seen Zubenelgenubi in morning twilight with x10 binoculars?

    Dave,

Attached is  a screen shot of the sky looking East this morning from 34N 119W. Zubenelgenubi should be right below Jupiter but be sure you aren't looking at one of Jupiters moons with those x10 binoculars.

It didn’t look quite like your simulation in Lincolnshire.  My figures for 07.25UCT at 53.10N 000.32W were:
    Jupiter:
    Hc 18° 08.4’ Az 153.43°
    Zuben’ubi: Hc 16° 53.3’ Az 152.78°
which if I plot them on a square grid puts Zuben’ubi at about 7 o’clock to Jupiter, which is about where it was in the sky.  Unfortunately, the Astrovan is parked outside the front of the house, so I was unable to do any measuring with a periscopic sextant.  Did I see Zuben’ubi, or did I see a ghost of Jupiter?
