Thanks for posting this. You clear up two things - what the CPU-50A/P does and the context of who and why it's used.
I met a B52 pilot from the Viet Nam era and he told me there were regular celestial navigation exercises as part of radio silence navigation training. He recognized the CPU-300 when I showed it to him but he did not know how it worked or what the navigator did with it.
