I don't know New York City very well anymore, but my best guess here is that you're looking at 42nd Street in the borough of Queens. You want the other one, the 42nd Street that slices across Manhattan, famous in song and show. Also, if you zoom in on the photo, you can see Madame Tussaud's which is a pop tourist attraction, close to Times Square, in that part of the city. Other features visible with barely legible signage on the street: The Regal Theater, which is more or less across the street from M.T.'s, The Travel Inn, which is farther west, and see if you can locate the buildings in the immediate foreground (hint: the one on the left is flying a red flag, and the building on the right is displaying a phone number, which appears to be 212-473-4242).
