A few features worth seeing in this account... There's new video from the west side of the river showing details of the departure including the positioning of the tug. Also there's a good discussion of the CPP, controllable pitch propeller, which enables efficient engine operation with no significant transmission gearing. And the video creator found a nice bridge tour that leads to a discussion of the CPP control procedures. This is not an exotic technology, and, as I understand it, the common ducted "thrusters" in modern vessels that allow precise maneuvering of ferries at pier, for example, usually have propellers with variable pitch that permit rapid thrust reversal.
