Willem doesn't quote a reference for his "old study book", or his diagram.
Where have they come from, please, in what language, by which author, and at
    what date?

The old study book I am referring to is

"Leerboek der Zeevaartkunde" ( lesson-book of the art of navigation)
    First Part
Written by: J. van Roon en P.Haverkamp
It is in the Dutch language
    First edition was from 1922
I have the ninth edition from 1954

This book was widely used on the Dutch Nautical Schools
