Re: DIY Starfinder - a lockdown project

    Dear Tibor,

I didn’t have the chance to print and check your design, but it certainly is easy on the eye. The idea of splitting the analemma into two discrete segments (solid and dotted) matching the date-circle line, is neat.

I noticed that the date-circle is not divided into 365 or 366 equal parts, but rather into 365.25-ish. Is that for the mean year? Could you also please explain what those markings near the crescent moon sign are?

I myself am working on a similar project of designing a printable starfinder which, when I manage to get it completed, I’ll share with this forum (it seems that the lock-down has initiated a “starfinder pandemic”, as Robert VanderPol II is in the same process too)… In that sense, I have one more question if you’d be so kind as to check it out: Do the “twilight” lines of the altitude/azimuth grid at 5 degrees latitude look like the one I’m attaching (see pdf Pyhton-generated grid)? I’m puzzled because the respective grid of the CP-300/U starfinder does not seem to agree with me… (see attached comparison pdf).

Thanks and please keep us updated on your progress,

    Michalis
