DIY star-globe: advise needed

Hello!
Dismantling a NewYear tree I noticed that one of the "christmass balls" is made of white plastic (usually - most of them are made of black).
The diameter is ~8cm, not too big, not too small.
Now I'd be very grateful for a hint - how to place the geodetic grid (and stars) on it - with no extraordinary equipment. I have a metal protractor though.
Any ideas?
