Well, that is a lot cheaper than a Freiberger artificial horizon, which is also a 'dark glass' AH. I have found it seems quite adaquate for solar and stellar observations.

Geoffrey.  You’re very lucky up there in the North Pennines.  Down here near Lincoln I’m plagued with light pollution.  I tried the dark glass outside tonight but saw no stars reflected.  I might just have seen Vega, but maybe it was just my imagination.  I was able to observe the Moon later though my workshop double glazed window and, whilst nothing like Greg’s Moon observations, they were quite good for me, but I still need a lot of holding and lining up practice. I'm used to having something with handles to swing from. DaveP
