I'm going to give this a whirl. I see that on July 29, the moon will be just east of Aldebaran. The moon will only be 20% illuminated, but if I can spot it, I have an aiming point to use as I try to find Aldebaran.
May there be clear sky that day!
My next task will be to find viewing software that lets me interpret the RAW format generated by my Canon G10.
