Frank:
Instead of computing two points with differing Latitudes, can you just compute Azimuth and draw a line through the one point you computed perpendicular to the azimuth? I have used this method using the traditional haversine method with logs for computing the time sight and Norie's ABC tables for azimuth, and it seems to yields a reasonable line of position.
It does not seem to matter what time of day you shoot your altitude.

Frank,
Would it be true that the method you have outlined here works best in combination with a noon-sight to get latitude?
And does a time sight work well throughout the day, or is it best taken near sunrise or sunset?
