Robert, is it possible that, surrounded by fog and night and odd currents and
fatigue, that you were both disoriented and the ship was actually being "spun"
to some extent by the current whirls? I don't mean spun in circles, but spun
about enough to make the compass dance more than you would expect, as you tried
to compensate against them?
