Another dock neighbor of mine has joined the rank of practicing celestial navigator so with great pleasure I helped him clean up his (1975 ?) C.Plath. It was in rough condition but all adjustment screws were working. The index arm and micrometer drum had to be completely broken down and overhauled. Everything went back together nice and delivered excellent intercept results using an artificial horizon for initial trials. The index error held at zero as expected :) For those new to sextants it would be wise to handle a C.Plath before buying one because they are very heavy. What you get though is a very steady good looking Sun through amber Sun shades.
